Scott Edwards was name Player of the Match in the Netherlands’ CWC match against South Africa on October 17, 2023. He scored a brilliant 105 runs off 110 balls to help the Netherlands post a competitive total of 264/7.
Edwards’ performance was all the more impressive considering that the Netherlands was playing against a much stronger South African team. His innings were a mix of caution and aggression, and he played some superb shots, including a six off the last ball of the inning.

The Netherlands got off to a poor start, losing their first three wickets for just 38 runs. However, Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru put on a 52-run partnership to revive the innings. Nidamanuru was dismiss for 20, but Edwards continue to bat well and was join by Roelof van der Merwe.

South Africa innings
South Africa started their chase poorly, losing two early wickets. Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen then put on a 50-run partnership, but both batsmen were dismiss in quick succession.
Quinton de Kock and David Miller playe well to add 59 runs for the fifth wicket, but after de Kock was dismis for 45, the South African innings collapsed. They were bowle out for 207 in 42 overs, losing by 38 runs.
The Netherlands pulled off a major upset, defeating South Africa by 38 runs. Scott Edwards was the star of the show for the Netherlands, scoring an unbeaten 78 and also playing a crucial role in their bowling attack.
South Africa was disappointe with their batting performance, and they will need to improve if they are to challenge for the World Cup title.
